Two Brothers Grow PT Practice from $792K to $1.4M Once Joining FYZICAL

It was 2009, brothers Brian and Burt established a PT practice, SOAR Physical Therapy, steadily building their practice to $792,000 in annual revenue by 2015. Just two years later, this same practice is projected to exceed $1.4 million in revenue.

How did they achieve such rapid growth in such a short amount of time after being in business for six years with gradual growth?

In 2015, Burt and Brian added FYZICAL's #1 balance and vestibular program worldwide to their practice. “I became interested in FYZICAL’s proprietary balance program because I clearly saw the need for this therapy that gave our clinic a competitive advantage. There is a significant shortage of truly qualified personnel to handle it in our profession,” Brian said.

Clearly, the goals of the ‘SOAR’ team aligned perfectly with FYZICAL. Burt and Brian decided to take the next steps and became FYZICAL members. Burt, Brian, and their entire team were armed with the resources and education to make the transition and became experts in balance therapy through FYZICAL’s training program.

One of their PTs, Danielle, now leads the practice’s balance and vestibular program. “I realized how rewarding working with this population was, so I continued to receive more and more education on how to help these patients,” Danielle explained.

Brian, Burt and Danielle quickly realized how beneficial this was going to be for their practice. They always thought they offered balance and vestibular therapy, but never realized how advanced FYZICAL’s program truly was.

“FYZICAL offers Level I, II, and III training, which consists of live courses, lecture and lab work, great resources online, educational pieces, worksheets/items to use in the balance center, etc.,” Danielle described.

Burt was also impressed by the wealth of resources and knowledge available through FYZICAL, “The balance, training, and fall-prevention program is intense and thorough. The depth of knowledge in balance and vestibular therapy is way beyond any training I previously had. In addition to the clinical side, we were trained in the business of balance… how to bill and market our balance program too.”

“Before joining FYZICAL we treated patients with BPPV (without goggles), general balance training with BOSU ball, mini trampoline, foam, gaze stab, and gait belts, but now we can do so much more for our patients. We’re actually curing these patients, rather than just treating them until they are symptom-free. We use goggles to identify BPPV and perform additional testing that [we] could not prior. We also use the static Bertec Posturography and Computerized Dynamic Posturography to further assess each patient’s balance and track progress over time. The CDP also allows for additional virtual reality training and the ability to perform weight shifting strategy training and challenge balance in ways that other items in the clinic cannot. We use a safety overhead support system that allows us to really challenge our patients in ways we could not prior, which allows us to safely treat our patients, preventing them from falling. I am now seeing how we are getting patients better… sooner!” Danielle said.

“The FYZICAL Balance Paradigm and Sensory Mismatch Theory broadened our patient base and was a huge financial benefit along with benefiting patients who didn’t have an answer before. The program has been the largest contributor to our rapid growth these past two years,” Burt said.

FYZICAL Woodstock promotes their balance expertise in their community substantially more than before they joined FYZICAL. “I am confident we provide a better balance program than 99% of our market,” Brian said. “We receive referrals from otolaryngologists, neurologists, PCPs, orthopedic specialists, and GPs that we’ve never received any referrals from before, and we’re constantly increasing the number of balance patients we treat in our practice.”

Brian and Burt remain 100% independent owners of their practice. They have built a physical therapy business to be proud of, despite a challenging healthcare landscape, and attribute this significant growth to FYZICAL’s balance therapy program.
