6 Signs Your PT Practice Employees are Unhappy

Your employees keep your private practice afloat and running smoothly, so you must take notice if there’s a shift in attitude or performance amongst any of those employees.

Your employees may become unhappy with their work for many reasons, but if you detect their unhappiness early on, you can still turn it around! Keeping your employees happy is essential for keeping your patients happy too.

Here are 6 signs to look for to determine if any of your employees are unhappy:

  • Your employee arrives late/leaves early.
  • If your employee is arriving late and leaving early, this is a clear sign that he/she would rather be anywhere but work. A happy employee will be excited to get to work in the morning and more likely to stay late and spend more time getting ahead on work in the clinic.
  • Your employee’s performance has declined.
  • If your employee was once doing great and going above and beyond, but has suddenly started doing the bare minimum, he/she is likely disinterested or unmotivated. If the employee is struggling, he/she may even miss the bar completely. Here are 5 ways to motivate your employees.
  • Your employee’s attitude is affecting other employees.
  • A really unhappy employee may begin complaining to other employees or becoming combative. This person may create a toxic environment for others, ultimately making more people unhappy. Not everyone will get along 100% of the time, but consistent attitude problems will become a major issue for everyone in your practice, including your patients.
  • Your employee doesn’t participate in team activities.
  • If your employee doesn’t participate in team holiday parties or community events, he/she may be unhappy. Happy employees will want to spend more time with their teammates and get to know them on a personal level. Avoiding these situations is a sign they’re not interested in doing so.
  • Your employee is suddenly quiet or standoffish.
  • If your once-friendly employee is now silent or standoffish with you, co-workers or patients, he/she is likely disinterested in work, or unhappy. Visual cues will help you determine a change in someone if they suddenly seem closed off.
  • Your employee is reluctant to share new ideas.
  • A happy, motivated employee will likely share new ideas or goals for their role or the clinic in general to contribute. If an employee doesn’t offer up new ideas or is reluctant when asked, he/she is unhappy, or perhaps his/her mind is elsewhere.

Often, it may seem most important to focus on pleasing your patients in any way possible, but you can’t forget about your employees. Your team is the backbone of your business!

By keeping your employees happy, you’re sure to see an improvement in your patient satisfaction as well because your patients can tell when your staff is happy. Keeping positive, uplifting energy in your clinic will help your business and your team grow and flourish.
